It’s a new year and you may be wondering about the fate of the Build Back Better Act (BBBA). Senate Democrats were unable to muster the votes to pass the bill late last year, and that resulted in the end of the advance Child Tax Credit (CTC) payment program. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) said Democrats probably won’t return to the BBBA until after addressing voting rights. Indeed, other Democrats don’t expect a vote this month and possibly not until March. A key sticking point is the advance CTC. Sen. Durbin said he feared the possibility it won’t be included in a reworked version of BBBA because of Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) opposition to a one-year extension. Stay tuned.
